Atlanta Ad Legend Dies at 77

I took the Holidays off so this news is not exactly current but it is important. According to the AJC December 14th edition, James "Jim" Payson Cole of Marietta died of complications with pneumonia on December 8 2009. Mr Cole was born in Cannes France but moved to New York with his family when he was six weeks old. He grew up in New Jersey. After five years at McCann Marshalk, He became the creative director for Cargill, Wilson & Acree which was opening and Atlanta office.

In 1969, he started an ad agency with Dick Henderson and brought in John Drake for his marketing know-how a year later. Cole Henderson Drake became a highly-regarded agency that, through 1998, handled national and international accounts for clients such as the Ritz-Carlton Hotels. When I started in Atlanta Advertising in 1989, I could only wish that my agency could produce the kind of beautiful print advertising put out by Cole Henderson Drake.

Cole Henderson Drake was a great Atlanta Advertising Agency that helped build the creative reputation of the city. The kind of work they developed and way they grew a relationship of trust with their clients is something that makes us all proud to be a part of this community. Jim Cole was a gifted writer who left an indelible mark on the Atlanta advertising agency community. He will be missed.

His survivors include; his wife Dona Vivian Graf Cole of Marrieta, and three sons; Jeffrey Cole of Marietta; Christopher Cole of Columbia, SC and Steven Cole of Toronto, Can; and one grandchild
