Humans Rule -Google Abandons Newspaper Ad Sales

Newspapers seem to be taking the hit for this down turn more than any other medium today. The combination punch of the internet news preference by younger consumers and recession impact on the local auto dealer, their largest advertiser, has accelerated their downward spiral as they look for a way out.
Now Google, who in November of 2006 decided to sell unsold print advertising space via a "priceline" bidding system, has abandoned that system all together. The two year attempt never paid off for the web giant but they are maintaining their attempt to sell radio and television over the internet. With nearly $20 Billion in online revenue, I'm not so sure why they made this attempt in the first place. In a valiant corporate communications drone speak, Google has pledged to help newspaper publishers find other ways to make more money.
While newspapers will have to let the dream of low cost revenue fly away, this is good news for the ad sales representative that day in and day out works to develop relationships with advertisers and approach their job as providing real business solutions for the advertiser's business.
Let's hear it for the Humans!
